GEO First Methodology for Generative Search & Growth

Unlike traditional agencies that treat GEO as an afterthought, Sekoia integrates AI search optimization from day one. Our proprietary platform performs active testing in 5 LLMs to measure real visibility – not estimates.

GEO Comprehensive Analysis

1. Comprehensive Analysis

We start with a semantic audit of over 50 key pages to assess how your site is interpreted by large language models. This is combined with baseline GEO testing across 100 queries in five LLMs, plus competitive intelligence to benchmark your position. In most cases, current generative visibility sits between 0 and 10%, revealing significant untapped potential.

  • Semantic audit of your website (50+ pages)
  • Baseline GEO testing (100 queries in 5 LLMs)
  • Competitive intelligence
  • Current visibility: 0-10%

2. Strategic Optimization

We then move into strategic optimization, strengthening your foundation for generative search. This includes implementing over 10 Schema.org types, optimizing content for E-E-A-T, enhancing semantic structure, and reinforcing core technical SEO elements to ensure your site is fully interpretable, credible, and scalable across LLMs and search engines.

  • Schema.org implementation (10+ types)
  • Content optimization for E-E-A-T
  • Semantic structure enhancement
  • Technical SEO foundations

3. Authority Building

We build authority through long-form content exceeding 2,500 words, supported by original research and clear author profiles that reinforce credibility. This is amplified by a targeted external citation strategy designed to increase trust, visibility, and adoption by generative search engines.

  • Long-form content creation (2500+ words)
  • Original research publication
  • Author profile development
  • External citation strategy

4. Continuous Monitoring

We continuously monitor performance through weekly generative visibility testing, monthly reporting, and ongoing optimization. The objective is clear: reach 40–50%+ generative visibility, typically within a 3–6 month timeframe.

  • Weekly visibility testing
  • Monthly performance reports
  • Ongoing optimization
  • Target visibility: 40-50%+

Timeline: 3-6 months to 40%+ visibility

Data Sources & Methodology

Performance metrics and visibility benchmarks referenced on this page are based on first-party GEO audits conducted by Sekoia.

Between January 2025 and December 2025, we analyzed generative search visibility for 500+ organizations operating in Quebec across B2B, professional services, retail, and local service categories.

Visibility was measured as the percentage of tested prompts in which a brand was either mentioned or cited directly within the primary AI-generated answer (ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Claude, and Google AI Overviews).

Prompt sets were constructed using a combination of commercial intent queries, category discovery queries, and local comparison prompts. Results exclude personalized history and were tested using neutral sessions.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is GEO (Generative Engine Optimization)?

GEO (Generative Engine Optimization) is the optimization of your content to be cited and recommended by artificial intelligence search engines like ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, and Google Gemini. Unlike traditional SEO which aims to appear in Google search results, GEO aims to have your brand cited directly in AI-generated answers. When someone asks an AI “What are the best digital marketing agencies in Montreal?”, GEO ensures your brand appears in that answer.

A 2025 Pew Research Center survey found that 62% of U.S. adults say they interact with AI at least several times a week. In Quebec, we observe a similar trend. If your brand doesn’t appear in these AI responses, you become invisible to a growing portion of potential customers. Our analysis of 500+ Quebec companies shows that businesses have on average only 4% visibility in LLMs without specific GEO optimization. This means 96% of AI searches don’t mention your brand – even if you rank #1 on Google.

SEO optimizes for traditional search engines (Google, Bing) aiming for positions in search results. GEO optimizes to be cited as an authoritative source by artificial intelligences.

Key differences:

  • Goal: SEO = rank in top 10 results; GEO = be cited in AI answers
  • Metrics: SEO = position, clicks; GEO = citation rate, visibility percentage
  • Factors: SEO = backlinks, keywords; GEO = semantic relevance, E-E-A-T, structured data
  • Content: SEO = keyword-optimized; GEO = comprehensive, structured Q&A format
  • Technical: SEO = meta tags, sitemaps; GEO = Schema.org, semantic HTML

At Sekoia, we integrate both approaches for maximum visibility across all search channels.

Our proprietary tool performs active testing by generating 100+ relevant queries for your industry and submitting them to 5 major AI engines (ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, Gemini, Google AI).

We analyze the responses to:

  • Detect mentions of your brand
  • Calculate your visibility rate (percentage of queries where you’re cited)
  • Identify cited competitors
  • Analyze Share of Voice
  • Determine which specific content is being referenced
  • Generate specific optimization recommendations

Unlike traditional SEO tools that estimate, we test actual AI responses. This gives you real, reproducible data on your AI visibility.

Based on our data from 500+ implementations:

  • First citations: 45-60 days after optimization begins
  • 20%+ visibility: 90-120 days
  • 40%+ visibility: 180-240 days (considered excellent)

GEO is a long-term strategy that builds authority progressively. Unlike paid ads which stop when you stop paying, GEO visibility compounds over time. Once established, it becomes increasingly difficult for competitors to displace you.
